Spot on, absolutely spot on. 7 Oct...Enrique, Rebel. Spot on, absolutely spot on. 7 October 2001, 19 March 2003 and now 18 March 2011 are forever a mark of shame of the Global Left... yes, many of us were fooled by the fervour of the 'Arab Spring' and as soon as NATO got their grubby little hooks in; the Left failed. Again... Here's a suggested default reaction: Never. Trust. A. Word. NATO. Says. Ever.
The past 10 years has given us plenty of evidence of the treachery of NATO... right now, they are sending Drones and Kenyan troops into South Somalia, in the middle of an extreme famine. I am livid, absolutely livid... Great post and thank you!Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7966656034650739810.post-4519870167019112642011-10-13T14:56:35.121-07:002011-10-13T14:56:35.121-07:00The "radical left", including Chomsky, T...The "radical left", including Chomsky, Tariq Ali, and others (Pilger in a far lesser extent), have opted to ignore as much as possible the war on Libya at best, or at worst to support it! This outrageous position, which goes against all tenets of their presumed pacifist and antiwar tradition has followed two patterns: their revulsion for Gaddafi (they didn't feel it so strong with Saddam apparently), which has made them more or less blind to the war nature of sheer imperialism of conquest and plunder of a prosperous country leaving in peace with everybody, and has led them to a monstrous insensitivity to Libyan suffering; AND/OR obedience to Iran (Hizbullah, Hamas...), which had embraced the rebels' cause from the very first day, and that many of these intellectuals and activists (see Galloway) wouldn't dare to contradict.
The MSM campaign may have also played a role in silencing or recruiting them, as if they weren't aware of the role played by the corporate media in supporting the establishment wars during 200 years... Even such liberal media such as Le Monde diplomatique, which had been a looney in condemning the Kosovo war in Europe has supported this war, with his relevant character, Ignacio Ramonet, playing a militant role in this sense. Never so many critics of the system and of its wars had joined it in a praising chorus of approval of perhaps the most vicious war it has engaged for a longtime, for being absolutely unprovoked (think of Juan Cole, Alan Woods, Gilbert Ashkar)!
Why so much intellectual corruption? Why such a stubbornness to deny the actual facts of the aggression, the evidence of its plot and preparation well in advance of the "Arab Spring" by the FUKUSA secret services well in advance? Why the parroting even now of all the media lies and fabrications starred by al Jazeera, but also the BBC, CNN..., since day 1, so that their analyses are based upon false information?!?
It goes beyond my understanding. But it is and it will be the object of many essays and research in the future. This is one of the side effects of this war: the regression of the "radical left" class to the social-imperialist positions it adopted in the eve of WW1 (in the body of social-democracy), as it betrayed the proletariat and supported and got involved in the propaganda of its chauvinistic governments. Likewise nowadays: this "left" has taken sides with warmongering NATO and its minions and has helped to demobilize whatever remained of the antiwar movement! A remarkable feat. The Libyan masses may remain thankful, now they are being bullied, murdered, raped, occupied by a horde of fanatic barbarians, and the intellectuals in the West haven't found out!!!Enrique Ferrohttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06495853479938515698noreply@blogger.com
